Some weekend reading (and listening) for health policy wonks.
A. The value of health policy research
Dan Gorenstein of the Tradeoffs podcast interviews Aaron Carroll, the CEO of Academy Health, about the importance of federal investments in health policy research.
B. Assessing Trump Rx
Julie Rovner of KFF Health News is interviewed on the podcast Today Explained about the potential impacts of the Trump Administration agreement with Pfizer to sell drugs to Medicaid at “most favored nation” pricing and to sell drugs directly to patients. The second part of the podcast features a discussion of drug pricing in the US and other countries with Stacie Dusetzina, a health policy professor at Vanderbilt University.
C. The evolution of digital health
StatNews’ Katie Palmer has a two-part series this week on the origins of digital health, and how it has evolved in many instances to be “drug first.” She also covers the move toward multi-state licensing for physicians practicing remotely. Reporter Mario Aguilar also reports on the recent wave of merger and acquisition activity in the digital health space. These articles are paywalled.
D. Vaccinations and employers
Not exactly a longform - but here’s a link to an article I coauthored with my colleague Patricia Toro, MD MPH, on what employers need to know about vaccinations this fall.
Hope you have a great weekend.
Here’s an animal photo to (hopefully) make you smile - utterly unrelated to the articles above.
This is a turkey vulture on a chimney in Carlisle, MA in late August on my usual bike route.
